Freighters / cargo ships
Posted by Big Jake on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 6:18 PM
Hey group,

I was contacted today and asked to submit a proposal on building a several ocean going freighters or cargo containers ships. I can get the plastic 1/450 scale ships but was wondering if there were any wood ship companies that offer a vessle of that nature. I can save them money by getting a kit and save me time assembling it. They wuold like models about 3 feet long.

My counter offer will be to build a scale model of the dock with several 1/450th. scale vessles and the rest of the works.

Sounds like a nice contract.
I can't think of any kits that large.
But let us know how you fair, and what you come up with.

Jake:
Congratulations on the contract.
I haven't heard of any wooden kits for these types of vessels, but you might try the 'debris forum' over on Jeff's modelwarships site.

How old of freigter? All I can think of right now is the old Sterling American Enterprise. Graupner (Hobby-Lobby) makes a few freighters that have plastic hulls for RC use. 33" long.
