Lindberg Shrimp Boat as Eastern Rig Trawler
Posted by tugandtrawler on Sunday, August 21, 2011 10:46 AM

Has anyone attempted to build the Lindberg Gulf Shrimp boat as an eastern rig trawler ?. I have built a couple of the shrimp boats out of the box was wondering if it could be done with pilothouse aft, the pilothouse would have to be shortened. I was also thinking of planking the decks instead of using the plastic deck the model comes with

I've used the LINDBERG Coast Guard tug and the the old PYRO "ATLANTIC" tug models.  Keep in mind most of the old Eastern rigs were of wooden construction and had rounded sterns vice square stern of the Western rigs. The Lindberg CG tug is a fairly easy conversion, I moved the cabin/pilot house aft (after doing a little cut and fit).  The Pyro tug can be converted in a similar  fashion. I never tried converting the Pyro "North Atlantic" fishing boat, but most of the wood Eastern rigs were about 60' long, smaller than the North Atlantic boat.  The Gulf Shrimper can be converted but the stern would have to be rounded. And don't forget to "weather the heck" out of these old work boats! Good luck...
