 Sprue-ce Goose:

I'd like to visit the shop, unfortunately I'm at the Chicago end of Illinois.

Illinois!  What part of Chicago is that in?  (Nice score on the ships BTW)

Groan......at least four hours drive in every compass direction from a 100 yd range...........

shoot&scoot: please try sending me a PM- FSM won't allow sending one to you for some reason.

Did the hobby store owner mention why he chose an old service garage as a place for his hobby store?

Does seem a but strange as I would think in St. Louis summers, air conditioning the building would be difficult.

Sprue-ce Goose, You can reach me at momanddad01@frontiernet.net

No he didn't.

I just opened the one kit and put the hull halves together.  Guess I'll start it.

Found there is a Constitution page on Facebook with some cool pics even of some of the rigging too.

Spue-ce Goose - their main focus is RC stuff.

Unfortunately, these days that is the main focus in the Chicago area hobby shops that still survive.

One aisle (3/4 of it) is planes, 1 aisle and a wall is cars, etc, and hardly a full aisle for ships.

He has 1 wood USS Constitution kit for $314 - too pricey for me.

The back store room is full of misc stuff stuffed in boxes.  I think it used to be gas station/garage cause two garage bays are closed and that is where the 'storage room is.

I have thought of buying more of the kits, possibly for others to have them.

I was quite happy when he told me the price of them he had in the back room.  Like I said he has a few more, about 8 - 10.

Even the one that was still sealed up is only $59.99.  I was expecting them to be a bit more.

Over the Labor Day weekend while in Rantoul, IL visiting brother in law, I went to a hobby store in Champaign, IL looking for this kit.  They had the 1/96 kit for 59.99, but the owner asked if I had looked in the back storage room.  I hadn't so he took me back there where I saw opened kits stacked to the ceiling (on top of tons of other stuff).   He said they were $14 each or 2 for $25!    After checking two of them, everything seemed to be there.  all the parts trees were still sealed in plastic.  So now I have two of the 1/96 kits.  He still has about 10 others.

I thought if anyone is interested and lives not too far from there this would save them a few bucks on this kit.

Its called Slot n Wings just off I-74.  I don't mean to plug the shop, rather to help anyone wanting this kit also.
