your CHIH is looking nice. i'm  in finish up mode for a contest and model exhibition until 15oct. that should clean up a lot of partial builds and set the mood for group build.

You need to snag an Emden. Watch repair tho, beware.

i intend to join, just not sure what to build. probably CHIH since i have 2 of them plus CHING YUEN (and both "battlesships") but i may do a VARYAG or BORODINO. guess i better finish up some stuff for model ship club exhibition in october and clear off the work bench(s).

Hope you do join the CoS  group build waynec. I am building the Chih right now and she really is a nice little kit to be sure.

got my backorder from dragon last week. haven't rivet-counted the detail but i agree with most of the other comments. my LHS has it for $83US but ipms members get a 15% discount so adding tax vs shipping from dragon is about the same. usually, in a case like this, i will support my LHS even if it is a few bucks more.

one reason i recommend a ww1 or earlier era ship for a nerw ship builder is the simplicity; no catapults, no aa guns, planes and plane cranes. looking forward to seeing the WEM pe set.

this one is in the queue after i get a bunch of u-boats and my MAS boat finished. may be a CASTLES OF STEEL gb but will probably  do a sino-japanese war protedted cruiser CHIH YUEN after i get dome practice in finishing my MARKGRAF.

Thanks for all the input guys, I’m really a sailing ship builder at heart;  however,  I have a soft spot for late 19^th and early 20^th century ships which is why it peaked my interest.   I’m chomping at the bit for Revell’s new Wasa model so maybe I’ll ask Santa for the Dreadnought!

I felt the same way after looking at early pictures of the Arizona.

With the WEM etch it should be a superb model. I have heard complaints in certain quarters that there isn't enough detail, but I suspect a lot of modellers are so used to the complexity of WWII battleships that they don't realise just how simple Dreadnought's superstructure and weaponry  was!

Me too, also their nice armor stuff in the last couple years.

The build-up looked very good, with the exception of some of the finer pieces, such as deck guns, etc...certainly looked like a great platform to add some AM and crank out a fine model...I have some of Zveda's aircraft kits and they are pretty sweet...

Not Hasegawa but better than Banner or Airfix.

I guess I would say that you probably can expect a kit that's Airfix worthy. Certainly not Hasegawa quality. My guess would be that it's on a par with the Banner Arizona. Why i think that and am I informed? NO.

But it's a good scale, and an interesting subject. I have too many ships on the ways to need to go out and grab one. But I would hope to get one on eBay some day for around $50 or so.

Any way you cut it though, a $ 50- $75 ship model is always a great deal.

I've done time and motion studies involving a certain old guy at his bench. It takes me on average about two months to chunk out a good airplane, for which I usually pay about $ 25- $ 40 or so. So 6 months of happy airplane time costs at least $ 75.- $ 120. It takes me a good 6 or more months to make a decent mess of a ship. And 3 airplanes take up a lot more room than one ship.

My LHS got two in today just as I was leaving, so I stuck around a few more minutes.  He let me look at one, and it is a good looking kit, and the owner put a price tag of $72.00 on it. 

I've seen build-ups and even though I am a BIG SHIP GROUPIE I have found it hard to drop $90 on...I too have seen it around the $70-$80 range but am gonna wait on this MOJO to come down...

From what I've read, it's a very good kit out of the box. Any issues with the kit were small (QF turret guns, torpedo net shelf) and would be fixed by the upcoming PE set. As far as $90, I've seen it cheaper elsewhere but it'll probably sell out quickly.
