Very nicely done, especially the clean lines on the splinter camouflage and the more restrained weathering than on your 1/700 version. You gotta' love those "Here I am, bomb me!" recognition stripes.

constructor - I use UNICanais fly tying thread I get from JSFlyFishing.com. It's inexpensive,(only a couple dollars a spool), strong and easy to use. It comes in various weights and colors, too. Great stuff!

How did you mask the deck to get those stripes so perfect?

Where did you get the PE railings.

I like the green lower hull.Why did you decide on that color as opposed to the usual red?

WOW!  I just got mine, so I will use your pics as inspiration!

As for the green lower hull, many Italian warships were painted green depending on the shipyard where built or drydocked.

I  like the green color simply because it's different.But you know how goofy modelers can be about accuracy.

When I first saw this thread i thought, "Hey cool- another modeler built the Roma!" But then I saw it was my build from several months ago. It's nice to see it get resurrected! Thanks again guys for the kind words and encouragement. I am really happy with how she turned out.

Ed - the stripes on the bow were done by cutting very thin strips of Tamiya masking tape (about 1/32") and carefully applying across and over all the the details molded on the deck. I had to apply  a lot of tiny pieces here and there to get a reasonably straight line and then fill in between with wider pieces of tape. There was a lot of fiddling and reapplying of tape and I still got some bleed that had to get fixed.

As Bill stated in his reply Italian warships hull color depended on where they were constructed and the time frame as well. Depending on your references they either red or the green. I think the green adds more interest and looks cool!

And oh yeah, I also recently acquired a Hobbyboss kit of the RN Pola heavy cruiser witch I'm gonna do another WIP on in the near future, so stay tuned for more modeling madness - the kit is gonna need a LOT of scratch building to get her up to snuff!

Thanks.After a week of contemplation,I do believe I'll use the same PITA technique for the stripes.I'm not really looking forward to that.

I'll most likely go with the green lower hull as well.

Hi Ed - I used Testors 1169 flat yellow as a base and then Tamiya clear orange acrylic overall as a wash. I smeared the orange on pretty heavy and then removed some of it with rubbing alcohol. Oh and I used generic 1/350th scale railings from Tom's Modelworks for the railings.

Please post lots of pics of your build - I'm really lookin' forward to seeing it!
