That is a great kit. I'm almost finished with mine, only the rigging left.
The hull construction in four pieces is a little fussy and is worth some care to make smooth. The reason for that is that Revell also sold the kit as the Dresden, the only survivor of the Battle of the Falkland Islands (for the Imperial German Navy), and she had four shafts.
The only aftermarket I bought was the GM PE set, which is a mandatory item. One of the blessings of the kit is that it was designed without railings at all except on the bridges. So theres little to no carving of railings to do.
In hindsight I would have looked at replacing the davits because they are kind of clunky, but it would be a little bit of a job.
The one part I was not happy with are the six 105mm guns that have shields. They look like little turrets, which they were not. It's a shame too because the kit also has two that are open mounts and look good, and two for the casements that are ok as well. But you need them. So I'm going to make six, but haven't gotten to it yet.
I'd say the wood deck is a maybe. Other than the boat deck, which is pretty much covered over, and the four gun positions, the rest of the ships deck is linoleum. Just a matter of $$. It's IMO a good kit to practice your deck painting skills on, because there is not much of it and it's mostly hard to see.
The PE was still in progress in these older pics.
One tip. Like all such ships, leave the stack caps off until the end. It makes rigging the stack stays so much easier to be able to fasten the stay to the deck, pass it into the stack through a hole and pull it tight out the top. Then glue and trim off inside the stack. There's a lot of them on this ship.
Good luck, she's a beauty.
