I think I started the thread you're referring to.  Here's a couple of photos that may be of help.  One is the support system for the shades that were sent to me.  Metal poles supporting ropes down the center line of the deck.  Hopefully Tracy can come up with some photos of the Arizona support extensions but here's an example from the USS Missouri.  They just bolt on to the tops of main stanchions.

Yes, they were removable pieces that fit into the existing stanchions. I don't have any good close-up that I can recall off the top of my head but if I think of any I'll try and post them here.

Tracy- there was a thread abt this recently and somebody opined that the support poles somehow were extensions of the stanchions for the life lines. But aren't those stanchions collapsing? That would make that hard to do.

As far as I know there's nothing aftermarket for them. I did post a drawing recently that will show you a little bit about the stern awning center rope:

USS Arizona Sun Awnings

Hello,

Does anyone have any good information that they can share regarding the sun awnings on the USS Arizona (locations, construction, general dimensions, after-market availaibilty)?  I am building the 1/350 Banner model and plan to model her as she looked on 12/7/41.

Thanks,

Mike
