Looking for an Italeri LCM 3 how is the box sealed.

I'm looking for an Italeri LCM 3 to try and make it into a HSSC Vietnam era boat.

The question is how are the boxes to those models sealed? I have a seller on eBay who swears Italeri uses circular tape. Every Italeri model I have is shrink wrapped. I said it's possible that that model had tape I don't know. The guy was real nasty and I will never buy from someone like that.

But for future reference when I do find one if it is factory sealed was it in shrink wrap or tape. I am very dubious of the tape story.  Maybe some of the older Testors versions might have been taped because of the type of box but not a big box like that with an open top, but it could be possible.

That's why I am seeking some advice here from someone who remembers or has one that's sealed.

I have some Italeri stuff that was opened when I bought it and even those older big models must have had the full wrap because I could find NO tape residue. With tape you cut the tape with a razor and not remove it because it sticks to the model and you would ruin the cover.

Now, in all fairness, I've not bought an Italeri kit in 5 years, and that was through eBay--but they all came in shrinkwrap, not tape.

The more poignant problem you are facing is that HSSC were converted from LCM-6's; which are a different dimension from LCM-3's; and, have differences around the pilothouse and front ramp.

Which will be a little mooted by all the bar-armor, and the hull flares and the like.

The last several Italeri kits were side opening boxes sealed with circular tape.  Even the most recent Dragon kits, although lid top, were sealed with circular tape in two spots.  In all instances the parts/trees were wrapped in plastic.

I have three Italeri kit boxes including the one for the LCM, opened of course. All have tape disks on them. Whether they also had a plastic wrapper, I don't remember.

I do know that sometimes ITALERI used the circular tapes on all four sides .There is a nice kit in the sale group at KING,S HOBBY shop in AUSTIN , TEXAS . I would contact them if you want  . The kit still is factory sealed , but being it was on the bottom I didn,t dig it out to look. I hope this helps .      tankerbuilder

I just bid on one on eBay. I thank you all for your responses. Hopefully in time I can make it into something a little more interesting and that would be a LCM 6/HSSC seal boat. They only had 2 of them made that way in Nam. One had a M40 106mm RR on top.

Just remember that the LCM-3 hull is going to be 2" (6' on the prototype) shorter than an LCM-6.

Scale appropriately from your source pictures.

For the record, i have Mig-15 ,Rolls Royce phantom II, Mercedes Benz, Dc-3 Dakota , Chinook ch-47, Hercules Ac-130A, Messer Scmitt, combat Scout Bell and Veltro, all from Italeri and all came in shrink wrap, notice that Italeri always use shrink since very long time as some of my models belong to the seventies !!
