Thanks for the link, Doogs!

I like the 1/80th Nippon Maru in wood!  Comes with white metal and PE.

Dunno, that 1/18 F-14B was steep, like ¥71,800.

And that, after you found a hanger to build it in--I'm thinking you'd need a 4'x8' just to lay the parts trees out upon.  To then probably spend as much time making assembly jigs (a la the 'real thing') as actual kit building.  But, the included LED for the IR probe, the cockpit CRT, even the exhausts did look cool.

Plenty of new stuff announced, despite comments to the contrary. Stick out tongue

Trumpeter's for a 1/350th LCS-1 Freedom on the way and it appears that their Queen Elizabeth class will either be a Warspite or that they are going to offer multiple releases.

Dragon has a 1/700th CVN-65 Enterprise 1969 on the way... CAD was beautiful. Also CVL-23 Princeton in 1/350th and a re-pop BB-39 Arizona with 1/700 B5N2 Kate.

These, and many, many more!

What’s up with Academy and Trumpeter going head to head with the same kits?  A new Warspite (QE class) !

Modern stuff isn't my thing, so I just skipped over the F-14, but you're right, it is a monster!

I'm looking forward to the Sorcouf (I love the unusual)!

They are not the same kits. Vastly different if rumors are true.

They aren't really head to head. The QE ships changed A LOT during their lives. The Academy is strictly WWII fit. 1942 if you mod it a lot, 1943 if you mod it a little, otherwise 1944 ground pounder role. The Trumpeter is rumored to be pre-1937 fit. A vastly different ship. Even the ships of the class looked entirely different by WWII and it might be that the Trumpeter kit can be done as any/all of them instead of just the Warspite. If that's true I'm picking up the Trump offering too. I would really like to show the Warspite in before/after the refit models. They would look like two entirely different ships. Considering there have been NO affordable models of this important class of ships before, having two or three new releases is great news.

Actually, the QE had three distinctive looks; as built with two funnels, the trunked funnel period, and the major rebuild just before WWII.  As for affordable kits, Airfix has their version of Warspite (such as it is), and WEM produces QE in her WWI configuration in 1/700 scale.  I would LOVE to have 1/350 kits in styrene of all three periods and am waiting for both Academy and Trumpeter kits.

I also have several Airfix articles showing how-to conversions of their Warspite kit into a QE class of WWI using their Hood to provide supplemental parts.  These articles are available from Airfix Magazine online.

Bruno: recent shots of the Trumpeter kit show Warspite features. So it's unclear if they're doing multiple releases or....?????

iHobby Show in Chicago recently revealed a Mobius 1/72nd USS Skipjack SSN (no kidding, about 42" long) and Gallery 1/350th USS New York LPD-21.  Skipjack is set for Q1 2012 release, MSRP about $120, no other info on the LPD release.

I'm hoping that all three come out as different time periods. I know I know. Not likely. Still one in WWI fitment, one in mid-wars fitment and maybe even an early WWII fitment would be perfect. But life isn't perfect. I guess we will just have to wait and see what finally gets released. Since all three makers now seem to be paying attention and producing pretty nice kits we can only hope.
