Agreed.  It is a judgement call.

I do like many IJN ships, particularly the BB's, CA's, and DD's.  But, by shopping around, you could build an outstanding Yamato for much less!  For example, I spent about $50.00 on the older kit many years ago, the (almost) equally good Eduard set sells for around $35.00, a wooden deck can be bought for $35.00, and a set of brass gun barrels for $30.00, for a total of $150.00.  All references came from the internet.  Add paints, cements, and spare plastic for another $20.00.

Oh, well. Perhaps the retooled kit will be so outstanding that I can't resist.  Who knows?

That's a personal call.  If you must have the new kid on the block then go for it.

I went with the older kit $50.00 with the Lion Roar PE set $120.00.  Total spent on ebay was $170.00 with shipping.  Add the AOS book at $35.00, paint , glue and some extra plastic for some scratch work and I came up with about $250.00 total.  But IJN ships are not my favorite so this and Nagato will be the only two I have any interest in anyway.

Like I said your call.

Agreed..... earlier this year I paid a bitover $70 at a LHS for the original kit. Even if I was to go all out on PE, Brass barrels, etc., I dont think it would cost half as much as the MSRP on the new kit.

I have yet to see any photos of this kit.  But, I wonder whether any improvements are enough to justify the huge leap in cost, especially considering the wonderful job Firedeck did with his earlier model.  I have the older kit, as well as several Musashi kits; the cost of the Lionroar detail set is much less than getting the new model.  Is the new model worth it?

Anyone know if Tamiya is controlling the release of this new kit as they have on some of their newer releases?

Basically Canada gets the kit first, or a simultaneous release with Japan.

I think this was done to keep folks in other countries circumventing their importers, so nearly everyone gets them around the same time. Wondering if it will be in the USA in time for Christmas.

Thanks
