It's the original Revell/Monogram release.

it is the original plastic but the basic kit comes with

"resin parts (screws and stern torpedo tube cap), anchor chain plus extensive photo-etch enhancements (including railings for all deck levels, pilot house, bilge keels, bow and stern crests, vertical ladders, inclined ladders, funnel trim, cable reels, skylight frames, superstructure doors, forward command platform and much more!)

Just be aware...it's a "pre order" at both Squadron and Freetime. Sometimes that's fine, other times it may NEVER materialize. I've never heard of Encore either.

I have heard of Encore.  As the name suggests, they do specialize in marketing older kits.  They are not that common, but they are legitimate.

Encore is a Squadron Products brand. They specialiaze in taking older kits and dressing them up with photoetched metal, resin, and other bits and bobs. They recently released the old Monogram 1/48 scale A-37 Dragonfly and before that they pimped out the Monogram F-102. These are nice items and I can pretty much guarantee that if it's been announced, it'll be here. They had an unpainted example at the iHobby show in Chicago last month.

Cheers, Aaron

If you had the original Revell release and the Gold Medal Models pe set and some scale chain, wouldn't you have basically the same thing?  I only ask because I've got all that in the "to do" pile and I'd hate to buy the new Encore kit when I could use that money on the Tamiya mustang that I'm saving for.

Big, take a look at the freetimehobbies site.  They are selling three versions of the release.  The descriptions do a pretty good job of explaining what's included in each version.

I've have seen the pictures of the kit from IHobby, it will be released in mid December, the detail set was done by KA-Models and includes the PE Brass, Micro wood decks, metal barrels and wood stand with pedestals. That is all I know for now! Hopefully is will bring some light to dire state the real ship is in!

It figures...

I've got this in my stash - outbid a German for it on ebay last year... I've collected the brass barrels and the USS Oregon PE, etc... Even considered some 1/200 scale KA generic wood deck...  My total outlay far exceeds what Squadron is proposing... Ah well.

Hopefully KA-Models puts out the wood decks seperately once the kit is released as I could purchase a couple for my other Olympia kits.

Looks like Squadron has some nice photos of the kit on a new Facebook promo page:

Still doesn't seem to be out of pre-order status.

Santa and the Elves better be able to get it into the big sack...
