That's what I was thinking.  Thanks for the help.

Everything was painted the camouflage color - at first. But of course there was wear and tear from the constant comings and goings of aircraft, hundreds of shoes every day, dech vehicles, etc., so patches of worn metal would show up.

WWII Carrier Deck Color Question
Posted by kielers on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 9:30 AM

I know that the majority of WWII Essex class carrier decks were painted deck blue 20-N, or something like that, I don't have the paint tins in front of me right now.  My question is were the metal tie-down strips and elevator frames also painted over with the same color, or did they remain bare metal?

Thanks for your help.
