The X structure was finished yesterday .Now MY INDEPENDENCE is true and square . Theother parts now just drop into place .This is the first time I,VE used MR. SURFACER on a model and WOW , does it ever work good .One slide past the various parts glued on , completely hid any seams . NOW , I really can get down to business . The center hull dropped into its locator areas like sand falling back in the hole .NO seams of misfitting areas ! That,s all for now as the train show beckons . I go to train shows to get ship parts .Don,t laugh . I will explain it in a different thread . Catchya Later-----TANKERBUILDER ---OOP,S I am shouting again ain,t I .

Hi:

Is your Indepence the Trumpeter or the Bronco version. I heard Bronco version has this problem. But I am building the Trumpeter version and the Trump's version do not have this problem, at least not on my sample

On the Bench: Man, Choices, Choices...Where to start. But trying to close up shop on the Trumpeter F4F-3 (Early) Wildcat. On the Stash: Trumpeter's TBM-3 Avenger, Revell's C-17, Trumpeter's 1/32 Typhoon, Trumpeter's SBD-3 Dauntless, and waiting for my BR-86 to arrive In the "Spare Parts" Heap: Dragon's 1/32 P-51D Mustang Early Version (Worst kit I ever saw. Wasted $35 bucks! Ohh Well)!!!

Your New York was twisted? That's odd. I have mine out and started for the review and it sits flat and true. In fact it looks like 50% of the build and painting time is going to be spent on the amphibious vehicles and the copters.

Normally twisting is due to them running the injection machines too quickly so the plastic is still pliable as it is ejected from the molds. The plastic has to be cool to hold its shape but cranking out 200 hulls an hour is going to cause problems.

I hope yours isn't the norm for the kit because I can only base my review on the one I have in front of me and it seems to be fine. In fact the hull parts and the upper superstructure almost snap into place and fit like a glove. If half the hulls out there are twisted it's not going to look good.

Let me know how yours go tankerbuilder and I'll let you know how mine goes.

Have any shipbuilders or wannabes read  AARON SKINNERS  column while he built this ship? It was pretty straight forward wasn,t it ? I ws a little dissappointed he didn,t go into a little more depth , BUT, all in all it was well written and well photographed . NOW , here,s my beef .It,s NOT with the article or the author . It,s with the ((^^%$#)_& model!! I have been building models for way to many years to say .Thing is I cannot fathom paying what I did for a model that CAN,T be built until I do major bracing installation to true up the hull and make the deckhouse fit !! This thing is twisted in two directions and believe me I am angry about it .Many of you know  that when you are dealing with large flat areas in 1/350 this CAN and DOES happen .It,s usually one direction though . I am going to have make a x type structure in .080 while the thing is clamped to my benchtop (which is less than a 1/32 off in eight feet ) and then build the structure to fit around the ribs molded on the inside . Then I will have to draw the inner deck/hull down to the same distance from the maindeck in the forward area is , back aft  ,so it will accept the center hull .Gosh , I,ve ordered the U.S.S. NEW YORK and it,s in 1/700 scale .(I don,t like them that small , but , when it,s the only game , Well you know what I mean .) This looked to be a very simple build when I opened the box .NOT SO .It will take the better part of two days doing straightening engineering , BEFORE , I can really begin the build .So The fine article notwithstanding , watch it when you buy this model ! Hey , AARON,why didn,t you do a U.S.S. NORTH CAROLINA , Or an OLIVER HAZARD PERRY instead ? Thanks for Listening ?     tankerbuilder
