Ship railings drive me nuts!

I forgot to say, in my earlier post, about how I handle rails that do not just bend around a corner.  Say a rail ends in a ladder-way.  No new section at right angles,  but it is well less than a full section to the end. In that case, many times I can cut the bottom and intermediate railings to the proper height, and cut the top one very long.  Then I bend that top railing down at 90 degrees, making the post from the top railing.

Check what Tamiya is coming out with if they have'nt done so yet. Rail posts with holes in it where you thread in the rails. If I'm not mistaken you have to plant the posts on the deck!

I saw this discussed on another forum, but it was a question about the best way to form the post in PE.  I think most agreed that a post with notches cut for rails would be the best way to do it.  I feel you have to really push the limits of sanity to want it.

In that case I often cut and use a new section rather than bend around the corner. In effect I share a post- the corner post is from the new section around the corner. If that new section is a short section, I have to do the same thing at the next corner, but so be it.

Right! Here's what I do.

Corners are my best friend in PE. Essentially I make pieces up that have the corner in the middle, and go halfway to the next corner. because usually there's a ladder coming up from below along in there, or a mooring bitt, a gun or a hose reel that offers a good place to stop the railing. If not, it's a lot easier for me to make a joint along a straight run. With a pre-formed corner, the PE sits nicely on the model while the glue dries, too.

Most cases it's just corners where the railing needs to be bent but the stanchions are not in the right place for a corner or end points that come up short or too long.

Explain. Maybe we can help. Also, the more you look at pictures of ships the more you'll notice all kinds of variations in stanchion spacing, gaps in them, etc.
