Have any of you used any of the wood decks on the market now for this kit? If so which ones and how would you rate them for fit and overall ease of contruction?
Thanks
I haven't used a deck on Bismarck yet but this evening I just put a deck by ArtWox on the the Trumpeter Adm. Graf Spee. It went on easily and looks fantastic. It even covers the seam in one of the two deck sections. This is the first one of these decks I have installed and I must say it went quickly and well. WS
I was curious about ArtWox products. Freetime hobbies has a Bismarck deck, but I think it was for the Tamiya or Hobby Boss kit.
How did you glue it down?
There are several brands out there, but the one I have is from BlueStar Admiral and it is made with adhesive already on the bottom, just have to peel back the protective plastic and stick it in place. Only bad thing I have heard about this type of application is the possibility of it lifting due to change in room humidity - a seasonal thing if you don't have ac.
regards,
Jack
The ArtWox deck that I used has adhesive that is already on it. As above noted you just peel off a layer of plastic and stick it on the deck. I got mine a little out of line and was able to take it off and put it back on the right way. I just can't believe how easy it was to use. I have decks from ArtWox and KA for some of my other ships waiting to be built. It looks great. There is another company that makes decks that you have to glue yourself and I have one of those too. I may sell it and get a pre-glued one now that I know how easy they are to use.
How thick would you say the ArtWox and KA decks are? I have two Scaledecks products now and they are almost paper thin. Those were made for the Borodino kits and fit like a glove. I had no issue using Gator Glue to fix those on the deck.
My next question is ArtWox deck at Freetime Hobbies did not say which kit they were for. If they are made for Tam or HB then I know they will not fit the Revell. I have heard that there were some issues with the Bismarck KA decks, having to remove some moulded parts to make them fit.
Ponto's will be coming out with a new Revell Bismarck deck in a couple weeks, have to see what Kim has in store for us with that one. His Warspite is very impressive.
The KA and ArtWox decks are very thin I have a set for the Tamiya 1/350 Tirpitz and the 1/700 scale Trumpeter/Pit Road Tirpitz.
On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6
The 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron the only Squadron to get an Air to Air kill and an Air to Ground kill in the same week with only a F-15 http://photobucket.com/albums/v332/Mikeym_us/
I have used the KA decks and they work fine. If you dont know what kit it is for you can call Brandon at Freetime and he can help you out.
