It's been a long haul (over a year) but she's just about finished. I may give it a little darker wash in places and a final clear coat. I realized too late that a Burke kit is not 100% accurate for the JPJ even though they are both flight I's. Oh well. lesson learned. I built this for a friend of mine that served on her a few years ago. It's a thank you gift of sorts for the last year he spent stationed in GITMO babysitting Al Qaeda prisoners. A thankless job if there ever was. I may add more rigging too after he receives it and can get me on board to get a better look at how the signal flag rigging is run. Anyway, it's my first real ship kit and first time using PE so I'm pretty happy. Built the base with the help of a friend and his wood shop and also have a nice acrylic cover that was custom made to help protect it from his 3 kids.
Thanks for looking.

Nice build there.
As to John Paul Jones, people may be interested in this transcript of a report from a paper from a town not too far up the coast from me... http://www.jpj.demon.co.uk/whitehaven.pdf

Super job, I will repost a photo credit on Little Plastic Parts!

Thanks everyone. I should add that the PE is a combo of the kit parts and the GMM set. I used almost all of the Veteran resin upgrades as well and the helo is the Bronco kit. It alone has about 16 separate parts. I have the Veteran helo's but they are almost a little overdone. I never could find a specific decal set for the ship so I made my own decals for the first time for the name on the stern. Just chose the smallest font I could an selected a gray that looked accurate from the colors available in Word. It looks pretty good. I'm pretty happy for this being my first real project in almost 20 years away. Just go slooooooowwww.
Which Burke kit did you use?

Who was John Paul Jones? Please tell me you are only joking! Surely our school systems cannot be so poor or the students so ignorant that they do not know the heroes of their country. Ever hear of George Washington?
Winks,
It was a simple question asked and answered. Why make someone feel bad.
Nice ship!

That sure turned out very well. Great job! Magoo
Nice work on what is arguably the best Burke kit OOB (any Trumpeter, really). If you really are going to re-attack the signal halyard rigging and other bits, you might want to add the stairs heading aft from in between the flag bags. I have yet to see a Burke kit get this right...they usually just put a ladder in against the bulkhead. See the pic below:
Regarding the rigging, this pic of HOPPER might help. Note how the halyards are belayed to the signal platform, the flag bags and the stair platform rail referenced above (in addition to a couple of superstructure cleats):

I have the old Panda kit. Not bad, but . . .
