Thanks Paul! I've got that book on order from Amazon hoping it would have something like that in it so now I'll wait till it gets here. It's a used copy (all they had) but hopefully in good shape. Should make interesting reading too!

Yes I've looked at those. From what I've seen it was a mix of the old 1.1s, some 40mm, and a bunch of 20mm. There 's one picture labeled as after the battle that clearly shows 40 mm but its not clear how long "after the battle" it was. She went back to Pearl for another refit not long after.  She also had that refit in New York that added the 20mm you mentioned, it's just not clear what else was added. 

Have you looked at photos on Navsource? I could only find a few from around August 42 and she had 1.1s then. history.navy.mil seemed to have a few more, although the date on most is hard to pinpoint. But there's one dated Aug-15-42 that shows a "new" gun director for the 1.1s, so it sounds to me as though the kept some.
