A very nice ship! Paper model flourished in Poland since 1957, when "Maly Modelarz" - a periodic that gave you one paper model a month started coming out. Paper models gave you the opportunity to build something nice, when the plastic model kits were impossible to get. Some four years ago I finished USS Belleau Wood from "Maly Modelarz". It paid off to put a very thin, almost transparent coat of paint to the model by airbrush, to adjust the colours of the camouflage, and then to paint all the edges of parts, where paper colour shows. Hi Pawel - yes, I've built a few Maly Modelarz kits of 1980s vintage, including the October Revolution battleship and the Minsk aircraft carrier.  Really tough builds due to the older paper used in the kits.  I have some new Maly kits though, including the battleship Hiei and the Belleau Wood that you mentioned, and they are MUCH improved - they look to be really nice, and much more detailed than the older kits. 

I'm currently building a 1970s paper kit of the USS Oklahoma by H.G. Watkins.  After that, I'm going to tackle the FlyModel USS Alaska, which in 1/200 scale will be almost 4' long and and will probably take me the rest of my life!  

I do regularly buy paper models and accessories (like railings and gun barrels) from a source in Poland via e-bay.  Thanks very much for looking at my model! 

Hi PAUL ! Hey , do you remember PMI from BEAVERTON ,OREGON ? I used to get my models from them ,but , they are gone and I can,t find anyone this side of the ATLANTIC that sells them . Do you know of someone ? I am at present doing the KROPRINZE in 1/200 in paper and before I build a part , I  take the paper parts and use them as patterns .YUP , I am doing a KRONPRINZE in plastic right alongside the paper one ! I am now at the point where I will be putting the decks on the paper one and at a final sanding on the plastic hull .I have duplicated the plating lays just as they would be on the real ship .That,s the ONLY thing you don,t get in the paper ones . I also have a cruise ship in 1/200 . I will get to it eventually  . Right now I have the WILHELMSHAVEN model of the CONTI-BELGICA container-ship under construction .What I like about the paper models is the sheer variety of subjacts available . I just wish they all did them in 1/250 or 1/350 instead of being all over the place . The sheer fun factor at how much my own skills have improved in plastic after building these is absolutely amazing ! . i have learned to do in plastic what I HAVE to do in paper because it has made me a all around BETTER modelbuilder . I even use paper ship technology in plastic to do 1/160 and 1/87 scale ships for clients .All they say is either Holy Cow ! or Jumping jehosephat ! How did you do that ! that is almost as good as the fees they pay ! I need more paper ones though .Can you put me on to some firm here in the states ? If not does your supplier in POLAND have a catalogue ? That is one beautiful carrier  , and yes those little planes are a challenge aren,t they ?.OH , by the way , I spray ALL my models with a flexible clearcoat so I can adjust the paint if I have to .       tankerbuilder

Cool. I have 2 paper sailing ship kits on their way from Poland right now. Love the carrier, been very tempted to pick up a battleship or two.

HEY,DOOGS! How,s it going? Those papermodels at the show were awesome werent they?Thebuilder has them and more.He likes to do the planes that have clear canopies and cockpits.Paper planes are a challenge though.  TANKERbuilder

My hat's off to paper modellers!  I'm working on the HMS Cleopatra frigate by Model Shipyard by using the paper parts as patterns for plastic.  It is one of the most difficult models I have ever attempted!  I also have the JSC HMS Dreadnought kit but am missing the first few pages of the instructions due to a printing error (I bought the kit on eBay).  I, for one, would like to see more building logs to get a better idea of how to properly proceed with one of these kits.

Bill - funny thing, both Shipyardand JSC are Polish companies, somehow we came to be the leaders of the paper model industry :-))). As for the Shipyard offerings, their models always looked mighty complicated to me, if I was to build one, I'd probably scale it up (like from 1:100 to 1:50) and build one in wood. But I've seen them finished on a model fair here in Poznań, and they sure look impressive. Sorry to hear about your problems with the instructions for the other kit. I checked if I could help you and I located scans of the entire model online, they can be downloaded here. Should you have problems with this one, PM me and I'll mail you the files.
