Lovely work you have accomplished. I too bought this Kit along with the Big Brother Edition. Trumpy surprised me with the 350 Kit. The Kit has been designed with the traditional Full Hull Halves along with the Internal Bracing which is now becoming commonplace. Might be a bit blurry but here is a Pic of both Kits.....Cheers Mark

Thanks for the replies guys!

TD - I'm already building the 1/350th scale HMS Queen Elizabeth 1943 refit. Pics to come soon!

Eric - I use Uni-Canais fly tying thread for my rigging. It's very easy to use and very forgiving. The masts and yards are from the kit. I may "dirty" up the funnel tops, not sure yet. The railings are generic 1/700 scale from Tom's modelworks.

Thanks again for your replies!

Happy modeling!

Always nice to see another styrene WWI BB. Very nicely done - rigging a 700 scale ship is no easy matter. Did the plastic masts stand up to the pressure? (I've always taken Jim Baumann's advice and built topmasts from brass or iron. It would save time to use what's provided.) I'd really like to think the RN used a dark stain like that - much more visual appeal than the extremely light decks of a German Dread. My only quibble would be the funnels: I think the QE was the first BB to have oil only but you're still looking at a whole lot of smoke when those turbines were pushing 25,000 tons around. But a lot of ship modelers favor the "commission day" look: maybe I do too many tanks. BTW: did the railings come with the model or did you need after-market?

A model boat is much cheaper than a real one and won't sink with you in it.

Well, she's finally done! Here are the pics:

I had a lot of fun with this build even with the fit issues. This is my first WWI warship and hopefully not my last. Thanks to all you guys for your replies and support. Happy modeling!

Greetings fellow modelers! Progress is being made on my build. I finished the rigging, got almost all of the railings on and have started working on the ships boats.

There's lots of touch up painting to do as well. More to come!

Greetings fellow modelers! Thank you guys for the replies! Yes, Trumpeter is releasing the QE in 1/350th but as far as I know it is the WWII version. A 1918 version in 1/350th would be cool though. Sorry I took so long to reply but life got in the way of modeling (WAH!!), but I do have a small update. I  got a start on the rigging:

Here's the main mast/boat boom:

Well, that's it for now but I'm gonna get more done this weekend and post more pics. Thanks for lookin' and comments/critiques welcomed!

Trumpeter almost always seems to have issues with the top and bottom hulls - it's like the guys who make the red plastic parts never talk to the guys who make the gray plastic parts ...

It looks like a great kit! I wish they would release it in 1/350.  Great job so far!

Trumpeter's 1/700 Scale HMS Queen Elizabeth Finished Pics
Posted by mstazz62 on Sunday, February 5, 2012 4:09 PM

Greetings fellow modelers! Oh boy, another WIP! Trumpeter models 1/700th scale HMS Queen Elizabeth. Here's the kit contents. The usual split hull, display base with nameplate, and a small fret of PE:

Here's the color plan:

I started construction on the hull. The upper and lower hull did not fit well at all and needed lots of sanding to get a decent fit:

Here's the deck painted, washed, and dry fit in place. The deck did fit very nicely:

Next I began the superstructure:

The PE fret included the wall panels of the bridge. I thought that was weird - maybe Trumpeter couldn't get the details molded on the plastic?

Here's some pics of the remaining upper works fit on the dceks:

Here's the deck fitted on the hull:

The secondary armament can be made to move if you wish, but I glued 'em in place:

Next I began the main gun turrets. Here are the pieces for each turret. Trumpeter gives you the choice of movable gun tubes or stationary with blast bags, but for some reason only shows the assembly of the movable guns. I chose the blast bags and as I assembled them they did not fit to the turrets without much cutting and sanding of the mounts. Maybe they are for another ship of the class to released at a later time? I dunno, but I think they look better than the movable set. The ends of the barrels also have huge collars on them that must be sanded down to match the appearance of the real guns. Here is a finished turret:

Well, that's about it for now. I moving on to the other turrets and then I'm gonna start on the rigging. Thanks for lookin' and please, comments/critiques greatly appreciated!
