I have been debating with myself if I need her. Now , my L.H.S.(HILL COUNTRY HOBBIES) on Bandera rd.mentioned it today. If I can gather enough historical material and possibly photos I would feel a need to build this ship.If you are going to promote saving tha actual ship , you may count me in. For more details you may contact me offsite a- gjgeracci846@satx.rr.com.      TANKERbuilder

Is anyone building it yet?  My supplier cannot get one yet.

it is still listed as presell on the Squadron website.   Encore is one of Squadron's house-brand labels

Al - I'm not a ship builder, but I've built some in the past and have been planning to do so again. This sounds like it might be a worthy cause.

Anyone Austin/San Antonio building the reissued Olympia?

I am looking for maybe an Austin or San Antonio ship modeler who is considering building this ship.   The new photo etched accessories and deck could make it a real knock out. Unfortunately my modeling days are over but I doubt I could do justice to this great vessel.   I have found one built kit at UT but am looking for something more updated. I want to use it as a prop when speaking at what I hope will be some local  meetings when and if  the following occurs:

I am involved in an attempt to fund repairs at the national level  for the fast fading USS Olympia. Our current effort is to get the National Trust for Historic Preservation to place the Olympia on its list of the 11 most endangered places (the situation has gotten that desperate).  The application has been done by  the Naval Historical Foundation, The Historic Naval Ships Association, and the National Maritime Alliance.   The NTHP has already set up a donation repository for repairs but as of yet there isn't much publicity.  Hopefully if the Olympia gets on the list that might change.  Anyone interested and I will give you links.  I can send via email instructions on how to endorse the applications to the NTHP if you wish to support the above named three groups efforts.  I can also update on the Olympias current status.  This effort by the way is in no way competing with the four under funded entities trying to get possession of the this now orphan and badly rusting ship,  it is an attempt to save the Olympia so one of these entities will havea ship to take possession. As a matter of fact, the entity from San Francisco, has already sent in an endorse of the NTHP application.
