Airfix Moskva Build instructions

Sorry scale should read as 1/600 NOT 1/660 - eyesight and fingers not in co-ordination! Still the pumps still working - up to now!

I've got a MPC issue of the Moskva.  I'm not sure if it's the same kit, but I could scan the instructions for you.  I don't have a scanner at home, but I could do it at work on Monday.

I would value your input as at the moment I am devoid of any information. Please don't put yourself in 'hot water' by illicit use of the company equipment though.

built that airfix model at least 30yrs ago & still have it, don't know if have instructions still or not.

I've built the kit about 30 years ago as well, but I don't have it anymore.  I bought it again a few years ago, and it sits in my stash.

When I opened the new kit, I thought is was a bit different.  I remembered the hull being one piece, not two pieces as in the MPC kit.  Also, I remembered the first kit came with more than two helicopters.  If they are different, I guess the instructions will be of some value.

There's no need to worry about using office equipment.  No one will know. ;)

Interestingly this kit hull is in two pieces.

I am led to believe that MPC and Airfix had a 'special relationship' in the 70s - apparently MPC provided Airfix with their products -probably cars - and Airfix reciprocated with theirs. I do not know what products Airfix provided but it could have been 1/600 ships as well as the more popular 1/72 aircraft. If they did provide said scale ships then our quest may well be sated.

I have taken'control' of my grandson's 'Moskva' (purely for research purposes only????) and have quenched his current kit-building desire by providing a Revell anatomy model (self-build body parts) of the great white shark (Inclusive of an additional grandpop tale of dashed derrring-do and buckle-swashing that Errol Flynn would be proud of - incidently telling massive un-truths to Grandchildren is in the 'Grandfathers' Charter' - at least it would be if one existed!

As a bye the bye - these Revell anatomy kits are very good, reasonably priced and recommended.

Still, back to the issue in hand - I await the results of your scanning exercise with bated breath!

The MPC issue of the Moskva is the Airfix model. You should have no problems with MPC instructions.

I've got the instructions scanned. I just need some place to send it; you can send me a conversation with the particulars.

I couldn’t imagine two model companies coming out with a kit of the Moskva in the same odd scale.  I blame my faulty memory for the differences in the kits that I remembered.

Actually, Airfix did allow MPC to manufacture certain kits. MPC did release the Airfix HMS Repulse, King George V, and Moskva; I'm not sure if they released any other Airfix ship kits.

It's strange that 1/600 is considered the odd scale because Airfix was the first to release its ships to a standard scale (1/600).  Aurora also did ships in that scale, but those models hardly count as replicas of those ships.  Revell and Renwal had box scales; and Heller soon followed with a standard scale of 1/400. All other standard scales came much later with the 1/700 releases by the four Japanese companies, the 1/500 releases by Nichimo, and the 1/350 by Tamiya. Mirage followed Heller with 1/400 and we all know of Trumpeter, Dragon, et al.  (Note: I am not including the 1/1200 to 1/1250 ranges.)

But, 1/600 was the original standard ship scale.

You say the instructions are in the post - may I ask where they have been sent to as I have not received anything. It probably because I 'm not looking in the correct place - help please......

As for my grandson being able to play with the model once built - that would be ok as long as he successfully breached the intended defences of  barbed wire, crocodile moat, 60 foot electric fence and minefield.

I was in the same predicament as Nick, having bought a 1973 vintage Airfix Moskva which turned out to be complete except for the instruction. There seem to be others elsewhere raising the same call for help too, leading me to suspect that Airfix sold a batch of instructionless kits. I was led to this thread after some googling, and has now got it from Matt. Just want to register my thanks to Nick & Matt, for saving me some jigsaw puzzle work that I didn't bargain for! This has been my first visit to this forum, but it certainly won't be the last. Tim
