It was a party boat, they would anchor near the shelf sometimes using the two anchors to hold position and fish off the side.  The inside is fully detailed as well.  Thanks

Interesting conversion!

Looks great, excellent display base.

Now was it a Charter fishing boat where the clients jigged over the sides?

The size and cabin space would have made for a decent party boat!DrinksCaptainParadise

Revell PT 109 scratch conversion

This started as the Revell 109 kit, however the only parts used were the lower hull and ships wheel.  The rest is scratch built.

America was built from PT314 out of RI.  Back in the early 60’s Cpt Jackie Michaels designed and built the boat for off shore fishing.  He sailed out of Sheepshead Bay until his death in the late 1980’s.

This boat had a number of first to its credit.  One or possibly the first to have slanted cabin windows, first to have a motorized front wheelhouse window, and one of the first supercruiser party boats in the NE.

This build was not possible without the help of the Jackie’s crew who over many months supplied information, pictures and drawings for me to complete the build.  It took almost a year of working off and on, but she’s done now.  With their support it turned into a labor of love, and I can’t think of a more enjoyable build ever!

America was reportedly lost on the Great Lakes after Cpt Michaels passed away.

Hope you like it.
