1/350 NEW JERSEY conversion-the birth of the WISCONSIN
Posted by tankerbuilder on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 6:21 AM

Howdy , Ya,ll ! Well , over on the gENERAL DISCUSSION thread I got straightened out on ,MOUSES,MEESES or MOUSEYS.Now that the window is open and the fan is on,lets talk about this conversion. I was given the TAMIYA NEW JERSEY . I had just help FINISH the 10' 6" model for the NAUTICUS folks and decided on the way home I would convertthis model to the "WHISKEY " The thing is,TAMIYA did the deck planking by way of very teensy raised lines.

Do you know how hard they are to duplicate? No stretched sprue here.I just removed ALL the wooden areas on ALL decks and switched it for EVERGREEN sheet styrene .025x.020 sheet with the grooved pattern. It,s small enough to get the Ah ,that looks good enough feeling. It may not be quite to scale ,but after looking at this stuff under a jewelers loup I think it is even scale acceptable.I just wanted it to be a perfect match for what was done in 1/96 by my hand , knowhatImean ?

Now , the next thing is all those pesky weird antennas. The answer , It will be done! I just wanted one for my display that was a miniature of the big one.I know there will be some differences but who knows? maybe the judges next year at the show will not have gone to the museum or built the model . That is a sobering thought.I do know there are areas I will rely heavily on the aftermarket!

Well , just thought I would let you know what I was up to . Still working on that photo thing .Maybe one of these days I will hit what I think is the wrong key and then "VIOLA " there,s my photo staring at me from my own post ! Well , gotta go ,Catchya Later-----TANKERbuilder        P.S. Don,t forget to adjust for the thickness of the kit deck. That thing is .040 thick !!
