I like the effects; you are not making them look like a derelict garbage scow.  I think the rust looks about right; it appears to be more of a surface rust to me rather than overly heavy rust that is eating the metal away.  Good job!

Look great.  Appreciate the photos, they help a sub building newbie get a clue as to what to do.  I have completed U-505 close to a 1/200 scale kit bought at Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago - where the sub actually lives. Photo here.

And am currently building 1 of the 1/350 scale like yours as well as a 1/144 U-581 motorized that I'm modding to not be.  Keep posting your kits photos please.

Hokey, I am a sub newbie too! Aside from a couple modern Nuke Attack subs that I built last year. But this was certainly outside my comfort zone. I have a Bronco 1/350 Type IX C U-Boat that I will be building as U-505 sometime in the near future.

Tojo and Warship Guy, thank you for the encouragement. These two boats were a learning experience from start to finish. I still need to find the "right" shade of green for the marine growth though. At least to match the stuff I see on boats and ships around here. But I have a few more still in my stash and there are several others that I want to pick up so watch for the next ones.

Wow Stik the only 1/350 scale Uboats that I have are the RoG Type VIID Mine Layer and the AFV Club Type VIIC/41 (with Beaver mini subs)

Hey SP, didn't know you'd posted more photos over here from the handful you shared on your Korean War GB! Very sharp work, love the green algae build-up on the Mediterranean boat. Never would have thought of it myself but it makes perfect sense.

Interesting subject, only 'carrier killer' sub I have is the IJN I-19 who sank the USS Wasp, destroyer USS O'Brien, and damaged USS North Carolina with one torpedo spread.

And great job on the Graf Spee too!

Mikeym, I have that RoG VIID minelayer also. After the VIIC build, I am looking forward to that one as well. I am interested in that AFV Club VIIC/Biber kit, if the conning tower is different. I like a little variety.

Gamera, thanks for the kind words. I found a great online article aboutpainting and weathering U-Boats to give me ideas about the variety in the marine growth based upon operational area. I know that here in Southern Califoria waters, I see a lot of green algae on ships and boats that operate locally and since we are a so called "Mediterraean climate" I just transposed what I saw. I just need to find a deeper/darker green to really make it look like what I want. But I do have a good idea for that shade  I have that AFV Club I-19 kit and wanted to build it along with these for a carrier killer sub theme. Perhaps this year I will get it built. Then I need a USS Cavalla or USS Albacore to round it out.

Great work on these subs! You nailed the boats just right IMHO and the idea behind the weathering is pretty solid "locating" them in the colder atlantic and the warmer, algea rich meditteranean. Spot on my friend! And thank you so much for taking part in the GB with your builds!

The AFV Club kit has a wintergarten deck above the main AA gun deck upping the 20mm AA guns from 1 single to 2 twin Zweiling guns and a 37mm AA gun installed for good measure. and it comes with PE for the antenna rigging and the upper net cutter .
