I got the assembly done and got the painting pretty much done just need to touch up the portside paint before I gloss coat prior to doing the decals then doing the dull coating. I think for a first attempt I did pretty darn good.

here is a top view of the USS Chicago and the Type VII/D

Here is another project I am working on in the Submarine category.

BTW here is a size comparison with this Russian boat the USS Chicago and the Type VII/D

I have quite a bit of progress on the U-Boat it is at 99.9% completion wise and also have quite a bit of progress paint wise as well upper hull and decks are painted Antenna wire has insulators made and painted after they dried. I'll try to get some pics up tonight. Just have to do the lower hull painting and painting the props and also need to paint and install the 20mm AA guns.

For what it is worth Richard there is actually supposed to be a seam around the deck as that is the demacation line between the hull and the removeable decking on a U-boat. U-Boat crewmen actually have to remove quite a bit of the deck to access the torpedo loading hatches under the deck fore and aft during loading operations and also to access other areas of the submarine during maintenance periods.

Mikey,

Can i urge you to reconsider your plans? Gluing the deck after painting might leave a bit of a seam in need of filling, especially on the larger scaled uboats...would be a waste of the time you spent painting it...

For what it's worth, i generally assemble the hull and deck completely and paint the separate pieces by masking (after the filling part ofcourse).

Instead i leave off the conning tower untill it is painted. Some dryfitting, adjusting and then supergluing it on the deck and you can start the weatheringSmile This way you can paint all separate pieces and minimalise the seams showing up later.

Again, this is just constructive advice taken from my own experience. Your model, your decision ofcourseWink

Mike,

Are you building the 1/144 or the 1/350 kit? They both have excellent detail!

Bill

I'm building the 1/350 scale version Bill though may get the 1/144 scale kit someday. But for now these 1/350 scale U-Boats don't really take up much room like the 1/144 and 1/72 scale U-Boats would. LOL I may even take a picture of it next to my 1/350 scale USS Chicago LA Class Attack Sub.

I am currently building this kit and I am currently about 99% done assembly wise. And I still don't have the deck glued down due to needing it loose so I can paint it seperately from the hull.

Rigging is 4lb test monofilament line and this is my first attempt at it. I also picked up a RoG Type VIIC on Ebay and got it in yesterday and I ordered a AFV Club Type VIID and Type VIIB today from Sprue Bros I guess you can say I like the AFV Club kits.
