Trumpeter BB-57 South Dakota

Howdy folks!! I just acquired The Trumpeter South Dakota kit # 05760. It's sweet. Only two small things worth mentioning.....

One is the kit as boxed has her fitted with SK-2 radar, which SoDak never carried. She had the original bedspring SK right up till the end. Easy fix.

Also, the 20mm have no shields as boxed, but a nice little GMM set will fix that right up to.Toast

This one's gonna be fun!

Sounds like a great project!  Hope you are going to share your build pics with us.

Look forward to following your build.  I'm  just starting on an old Revell kit to build USS Indiana BB-58 .

I have this kit too and I hope you post some photos of your work.  I've been wanting to build my first ship kit for some time - a U.S. battleship - and I have this kit along with some of the Trumpeter Iowa class ships.  The South Dakota kit is kind of scary to me due to all of the small pieces in the box!  Maybe photos of your build will inspire me :)

Thanks folks. Might be a bit before I start. Wife told me I had to finish up the ones I have going first. It's just as well, as I have to save up to get the GMM PE for it. Going to use the excellent U.S. Battleships set that GMM has, which includes anything you could wish for, including upswept main deck railings for the bow of North Carolina class, South Dakota class, and Iowa class!

Simply beautiful. Here's a link to a review:

Also going to snag the 20mm a/a set for the shields.
