Revell Kit 4008 "The Hunt For Red October" USS Enterprise PE parts?
Posted by pianodog on Friday, April 27, 2012 10:19 AM

Hello everyone,

I am sure this will be the first of many post I'll be placing, I hope this forum can bring some light, I have many models in my "build this some day", well I think the day has come. Here is the first line of questions.

1.- Any one knows if there is a Kit of PE (photo etched) for a 1/720 USS Enterprise? I would like to add maybe some railing to it.

2.- The model has some imperfections, any good filler that you nice people recommend?

Thank you all in advance.

I know that Gold Medal Models produces modern US Aircraft Carrier sets that are quite nice, but I do not know whether there is a specific set for this kit.  Check them out at www.steelnavy.com or Pacific Front Hobbies.

The Gold Medal Models 1/720 photo-etch set is quite nice; a bit pricey but definitely worth it.

They also sell decal sheets for the aircraft.  Very tiny and challenging to work with, but really make the model look super.

Hi,

thanks for your answer I have an other question, sorry about that, I see that they have 1/700 scale kits, can I use those for my 1/720 model? Thanks again.

The difference between 1:700 and 1:720 scale with respect to 1:700 scale railings is about 3%  (i.e. 20/700).  That is actually pretty close.

Scale fidelity is one's personal choice.   I choose to not mix scales in excess of 10%.

Very good point thank you, 3% is not that bad. =)

Now I went into the Gold Medal Models web page but they do not accept on-line orders, any one knows a store who carries this products so that I can place my order? thanks again.

Check Freetime Hobbies/Pacific Front.    They are one of the better ship-centric online hobby vendors in the States.     You might find onesies/twosies on GMM products at other outlets such as Sprue Bros or Squadron but Freetime stocks a lot,  both GMM and other manufacturers.

Starfighter has ship decals just for this kit too, and they really wake it up!!

Pacific Front Hobbies is the naval modeling subsection of Free Time Hobbies.  I have had OUTSTANDING service from them. You can order GMM sets from them instead of ordering directly from GMM. And, you can pay by either credit/debit card or paypal.

I was asking the same question on another thread. The PE price for the the 1:720 set is the same $24 at GMM and at Pacific Front Hobby. The difference is $2.50 vs. $5.35 in shipping if you pick USPS instead of UPS at PFH. $2.85 additional for the convenience of using Paypal or credit card at PFH.

Hello my experience modelers ok I order the GMM PE from:  http://www.brookhursthobbies.com now I have a building question, I encounter a little flaw at the bow, any ideas on how to make it smooth and good looking, I am using White Putty but for some reason I can't get it right, any help will be appreciated.
