Why brass barrels?

Okay, not Arizona, but my Olympia.  I brought it in its WIP condition to a modeling club the other night.  Someone asked, "are those the brass barrrels?"  I said they were.  He said, "But you painted them!  If you paint them, why bother with brass, why not use the kit plastic barrels?"

I explained, "because the brass barrels are round, not oval, elliptical, or offset semicircles."  Shiny brass may look neat, but it isn't scale.  Painted mis-shapen barrels even in the right color, look bad.

Ended up getting a killer deal on a 1/350 Arizona so I put my Revel kit p for sale.  Got the Hobby Boss kit, Toms PE and brass barrels for $60 bucks.

Is B&D the only maker of brass barrels for the Revell 1/426 USS Arizona?   At $39-$42 a set they are a little out of my budget right now. I was lucky to get the Gold Medal Models PE set for only $13 bucks.
