The Preiser modern German NATO air and ground crew, with a little surgery, careful paint jobs, and the addition of cigarette paper white sailor hats, can pass for WW II US sailors, I did that with a naval air station diorama:

Any of you guys know if there is such a thing available on the market? I am aiming at crewing up the 1/144 subs i build but never saw anything of the sort around... would be cool though.

Richard

No naval crew figures or figures doing appropriate naval actions in 1:144 scale

Preiser makes some 1:144 scale modern NATO crew,  plus some WWII USAAC, German tankers, and civilian airline passengers.    Pegasus offers some prepainted Army types.

Railroad N-scale figures are sometimes recommended,  but N-scale (1:160) is smaller by 11%  (144-160)/160.    Your 6-foot sailor ends up looking like he's 5'4"
