The Lumber Yard
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 8, 2004 3:29 PM
The kit I bought is one 2x2 (mm) strip of Walnut short of a full load. Has anyone made a purchase from "the Lumber Yard for model shipwrights"? http://www.dlumberyard.com/

My question is, are they expensive? I really don't want to spend more for one strip of wood than I paid for the whole kit. Big Smile [:D]

I haven't contacted Mamoli yet. I think it would cost more in postage to have them send one strip of wood from Europe to the US.

Any other idea's?

I don't have any on hand myself right now or else your problem would be solved.
You might try Bluejacket Shipcrafters or the Dromedary, at least you can compare prices.

Come on guys; surely one of us must have a spare piece to help Dave out with?
Huh?

I have a 2"X2" chunk of stock???? Sorry!

The Lumber Yard is great if you are scratch building or want to buy in bulk. They have a huge selection of exotic woods that sell a fair market prices if you buy it in rough stock. They will cusotm cut to whatever you want but is costs.

It's a good place to keep in mind.

The length of the other strips in the kit are 55 cm (550mm or about 21-1/2"). I think I could make it work with a strip about 18" long. I'll have a couple inches left from the other strip. The left over, plus another 18" piece I would have enough.

Scott, That would take a lot of sanding! Big Smile [:D]

I e-mailed the Lumber Yard last night just to see what their price would be. Haven't heard back yet.

Bruce, Do you have the URL for Dromedary? I searched via google but all I got were websites dealing with the "Dromedary Camel" of Africa.

Mamoli are OK. When your message is finally read by an English speaking member of staff, they are usually quite quick in replacing missing or broken parts. No charge.

The Lumber Yard replied. $0.35 for the piece of walnut and $1.35 to send. I think I'll order it from them.

Thanks all.

Dave:
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I was out of town on business for a couple of days. Glad to know your lumber woes are over, at least for now.

The Dromedary does not give a URL in their ads, so maybe they are not on line? Their phone number is (915) 584-2445, and the $6 they ask for their catalogue is well worth it.

Another good place for bits and pieces that is on the web is Loyalhanna Dockyard (www.loyalhannadockyard.com).

Enjoy!

Try Model Expo. They have 2 x 2 mm walnut strips listed for $2.49 for a package of 6.
