LF Revell 1/96 CSS Alabama...
Posted by Big Texan on Monday, June 4, 2012 2:14 PM

Guys, looking for the Revell 1/96 CSS Alabama kit. Willing to pay a fair price but not ridiculous like the two on ebay currently.

Thanks,

Tommy

Oh I know, I'm really having difficulty in finding one. Karen Lee Hobbies is out of stock.  I've hit all the forums I can think of.  There are two on ebay right now, but they are ridiculously priced, and I'm not that desperate.  I even tried Amazon.com.  Just have not had any luck. Oh well, I guess I'll have to be patient.

Looks like the current bid is 46 bucks! What do you consider a reasonable price?

Unless there's a new one I'm unaware of, the two that I saw was priced at $117 dollars and the other at $199 dollars.  These, I consider unreasonable.

Where on Ebay did you find this bargain at?  The two I'm speaking about are in Toys/Hobbies under Model boat/ships.  They are "Buy it Now" offerings at the prices I mentioned above, no bidding.  So where did you the one you're talking about?

Actually, the $117.00 is very close to what the kit should retail for if new.  It is a little high, but not by much.

Thanks Philo!  I found it plugging that in.  Got 5 days left...see how it goes and put my bid in unless it gets crazy before the end.

Didn't they make a big Kersage?

Yes, and reissued it with a few mods as a totally inaccurate "Alabama"

I just saw the latest email from Bluejacket.  They are making a 1/8 scale (1:96) set of the Kearsarge and Alabama in time for the 150th anniversary of that battle. The kits will be released next year.  I have started saving because these will probably be far more accurate than either Revell kit.

didn't see it on the website. that would be a tad pricey i would think. would like to pick up a revell KEARSARGE, inaccuracies and all. just got a PEDRO NUNES and AMERICA from a friend. again inaccurate but built both as a kid and obviously my modeling skills have improved. plastic is all about the painting.

Revell's Alabama is a repop using the hull of the Kearsarge kit. As the real Alabama was 12 feet longer than the Kearsarge then it must be totally wrong?

Their 1/96th scale Thermopylae / Pedro Nunes kits both use re pops of their Cutty Sark.

I guess that the Cutty Sark kit will be accurate as well as the Kearsarge kit. But I believe that the Kearsarge kit does not depict the ship as she was when she confronted the Alabama.

It would be nice if some manufacturer made an accurate kit of the Alabama in a smaller scale of say 1/200th.

Heard somewhere that Bluejacket Ship Model Crafters are issueing a plank on frame kit of the Alabama that should hopefully be accurate. Any one know of this new kit or is it just a rumour?
