Hello Ship Modelers; I am a relatively old hand at aircraft plastic models, but brand new to wooden planked ship models. I was given Bluejackets New Bedford whaleboat kit by my sister and brother in law, who live nearby Searsport, Maine and am giving it a go. I am really enjoying learning not only all these new techniques of steaming, bending, applying planks, sheer strakes, garboards and all the maritime terminologies, but all the history in these topics. So far so good.
Has anyone built the New Bedford whaler out there? I am at the point of having turned the boat over, it is off the framers and am beginning the interior. I am a bit confused on what are called the thwart risers. I know what they are (I think) but am confused as to how many there are, how they are placed and in the model do they run the width of the hull underneath the ceiling planks? The cross section given in the instructions is a bit confusing as to whether they run the width or are only measured and placed down to the riser from the gunwale shown in the section?
If this makes any sense to anybody and they can help, thanks!
