Cheers Big Jake! Awesome job on the settlement! I was thinkin....I have the TMW PE set for the minicraft kit and was pondering the best way to fold the benches,....the Chinese kit I have is as I say 1:360....I could use their plastic benches as a kinda jig, or gave I got my scales the wrong way round? Lol if I have!

Cheers

Roy,

On the Academy small version of 1/400th. It WAS indeed an exact copy of the bigger Minicraft version. They simply 'panagraphed' (if that is the correct term) it down to a smaller scale.  Minicraft took them to court and won an injunction for (I think) 5 years against imports. They hired me and 4 other modelers to write detailed reporst on the same 'mistakes' such as the infamous 15 portholes on one side of the bow and 16 on the other side...and so on.

Minicraft was kind enought to pay for the reports and them add our names in the instruction booklet, Damn good surprise there. However, the money sure came in handy as well.

It seems I,ve come to this thread a little late. There,s some good advice given here.I drilled out all those pesky portholes too. Now,I didn,t worry about drill size.I just looked till I found one that fit the depression tightly and used that.

My fibre-optics fill the hull tightly leaving little room for a light source.I bundles all them together and painted the outside of them black . This way no light was lost. The funnel searchlights were tricky, But, I fudged on it and they work fair.I used a heat source to curve the ends so they would act like lenses to focus the light more.

The big problem is the wattage of the light. You have to keep it cool! For that I use six LEDS tightly together to replace the night-light bulb I was using. Not finished yet . will let you know the end result. TANKER-builder

any time that port holes are drilled out, block out the see through effect with a panel parallel to the keel.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

If it still matters; scaledecks.com makes a 1/350 wood deck. A few different ones as a matter of fact.

It was the Titanic decals I was on about! The guy in Canada has a set of 1\400 scale left but cannot get any more 1/350 scale, there wont be much difference in size coz they're tiny anyway! Up to you mate!

Yeah the decals look fun on the McLaren Jock, still after some Titanic ones too. Thanks for the advice Tanker, it's on the back burner at the mo as I have the Amati kit on the way :D I must admit though even just drilling the portholes has made it look fantastic! Happy chappie :)

Hi,I just wanted to say that you bit off a big job.I did my MINICRAFT -TITANIC about seven years ago using fibre-optic material and believe me it was a job.

The whole idea of thinking of someone else drilling out all those holes just sent shivers up my spine. The end result will look good as long as you are very careful and NEAT in your work.Don,t forget to paint the parts you don,t  want reflecting light ,black. This applies to all the sided of each strand .

This assures the light will shine out the windows and portholes. It makes a great night light and I now wish I had kept it.I gave it to my former employer as a lighting set piece in their restaurant.

I don,t know even if they,re still open.     TANKER-builder

It is indeed my man. I'm a F1 nut. And a big Lewis fan. Also got Hachette's Tiger Tank on the go too. But I've not touched either of them since may. I have a massive stack of modeling to do just not the beans to do it l

Roy, the guy in Canada doesn't have any 1/350 Titanic decals left but he does have some 1/400 scale decs left, sounds like a fellow modeller had made a batch and sold the remainder to the Canadian. There wouldn't be much difference in size between 350 & 400 if you want to go for it. let me know mate and I will get you two in touch. It's a very small sheet by the way!

I wanted to go to town on it with the aftermarket stuff but I couldn't afford to do it along with the cost of a new kit, but lo and behold I got the bargain which amounted to a complete new enterprise that needed the 3 deck sections & 2 hull sections stripped. The aftermarket stuff has cost about 150 quid so far with another 30 still to go if I decide to use the etched deck elevators. I"m pretty certain that's what I"ll do coz I really like them on A.M. Jorge s build, which is worth a look by the way!

I've been finishing off my Zvezda Varyag cruiser. bout 80% complete and collecting bits for my 1/350 uss enterprise, in between these two I've been building a missile cruiser also called Varyag. The zvezda one is from 1899 and sunk near my hometown in Scotland, researching that got me interested in the missile cruiser of the same name.

Still undecided, my problem is I have 20 LEDs that came with the kit, ten white and ten warm
White I'm just wondering if that'll be enough for the mass of fibres. I brought the fibre cable separately. Hope all is well Jockster. What have you got on the go at the mo?
