NIce looking build. I once built the Saratogoa for my dad and it didn't come out near as well as your build

Thanks, Bondo.  Serving was a privilege, and the grandest adventure of my life.  I believe you know what I mean,  and thank you as well.

I re-arranged the flight deck completely, three or four times.  Finally glued it down to make myself stop!  It made me remember how incredibly much spotting went on during a typical day, though there weren't really any 'typical' days.  No easy ones, either, LOL.

Thanks again, and thank you, too, checkmateking02, for the kind words.

Very nice model Ord.

Thank you for your service. Nice to have another "youngster" aboard.

Hope you didn't glue down the aircraft. I'd spend all my free time playing with the deck arrangements!

This looks very nice.  It is carefully assembled, well-painted and lightly weathered.  Looks very good.  Congratulations on your return to modeling.

Old Newbie Kitty Hawk Build - complete
Posted by Old Ordie on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 4:08 PM

Hello all,

This is my first post on the ships forum.  I just completed the Academy 1:800 USS Kitty Hawk. Though I'm a plane guy, and I can see by the photos that there are some terrific ship modellers on this board, I thought I'd share this truly humble newbie build with you all for two reasons:

1.  This kit was the first one I started after a model building  hiatus that stretched for nearly 49 years (from the age of 14 to ... well, you can do the math ... Wink.  This kit, an impulse buy made while accompanying the wife to Hobby Lobby, that got me back into modelling.  I've done three planes while taking breaks from working on this kit since I started on it, many months back now.  It is finally done Smile.

2.  I served on the Hawk, WestPac1970-71, as an ordnanceman in VF-114 - so, as poor as it is, this is a sentimental build for me.

I'll probably do a few more ships as time goes by, but they'll be spread out and will all have something to do with planes, e.g., carriers, seaplane tenders, etc.  Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Thanks for looking, and good scale modelling to you.
