Need New US Fleet Boat 1/72
Posted by DBFSS385 on Monday, February 9, 2004 10:43 AM
I think I would kiss my sister in order to see Revell Gr or anyone release a 1/72nd scale US Fleet Boat.. So many options for conversion to Guppys etc...
I like UBoats fine but with all the the UBoats available I find it strange that US Fleet Boats are barely covered by the Major "Plastic Model Companies"
I like many other Sub Modelers find the Fleet Boats much more attractive than the Type Vlls..I have done a few Resin kits but I like to do major conversions and Resin is too expensive for experimenting with..

Butch-
Scale Shipyard offers a Gato or Balao (1/72 or 1/96) fiberglass hull...but it's up to you to do the deck and many of the details...I believe the hull comes with a conning tower and some resin appendages. If you like major conversions, this could do it for you.

from Scale Shipyard's catalog:

"Our intermediately sized GATO class submarine is for the modeler who wishes a larger model then our 1/8" scale sub, but a more manageable sized model than our larger 1:48 scale version. At 52 inches overall, this hull will fit across the rear seat of most cars and will even fit in the overhead bin of most airliners for the Person who wants to travel with their sub. This hull features molded in detail such as the anchor wells, forward dive plane recesses, flood holes and bottom vents, rudder skeg, torpedo tube doors and the shaff exits & strut locations. lncluded is a fiberglass conning tower molding and exterior plans set. Also included with this hull is a fittings package: 5" deck gun, 1 40mm & 1-20 MM AA guns, hatches (deck and escape) , anchor, mooring cleats, capstans, stem chock and cast polymer rudder and fore & aft dive planes.
