Congratulations David.   A win is a win, especially with prizes.....LOL

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

So, I received my prizes from Revell today!

Pretty neat...two kits, one is a 1:500 USS Chicago Missile Cruiser, and the other is a 1:144 scale Apollo Saturn V Rocket!

It's funny, last night we watched this movie called Battleship, about an alien invasion which is thwarted by some Navy forces...the movie was a little bit ridiculous, but for the first time I understood the beauty and power of the Battleships, Destroyers, etc....and I remarked to the lady, "Maybe I should get a kit of the Missouri or something and try it out, these iron ships are pretty popular with guys on the forum."

...And then today I found one on my doorstep!

The rocket is super-cool, too!  I've never built either of these types of kits, so it'll be fun to try them out!

Of course, I would have been honored by whatever prize they chose to send, but I'm REALLY glad I didn't find a couple of Muscle Car kits!  lol

Doesn't matter what you say about the reasons you won David, the rest of us know you are a damned fine modelmaker and I am very pleased for you. Well done old son!

Cool,

I remember doing one of their contests back in the 70's and got a box full of kits. Pretty fun stuff.  you deserved it and enjoy the kits.

Thanks, guys...

I appreciate to compliment, bondoman....but like I said, my winning a prize had nothing to do with my modeling skills, it was just that I had support from my friends & family.

I actually responded to the email i got from Revell, POLITELY and MODESTLY thanking them for the opportunity, but also making a suggestion that, for future contests, they might consider offering category-based contests (cars, ships, planes, figures, age groups, etc.) and also conducting independent judging, as opposed to *friend-votes*....

Once I receive the prize model kits, I'll let you know what they are.

So, I just got an email from Revell that I placed in the top 5 of a contest they ran on Facebook last week...

It's wasn't a REAL  model contest, since votes were garnered by friends of the entrants, and NOT judged by objective people based on merit or presentation....so really, it came down to a popularity contest, which I think is misleading.

Nonetheless, I entered a picture of my completed Vasa, and asked all my Facebook friends to vote for me, and I got 5th place.  Now, Revell is sending me $50 worth of model kits from their catalog (selected by them)...

Pretty neat...
