What sets the mood right when you're building boats?

Hi there! I would like to find out how you create your own magic atmosphere in your workshop. I'm sure you all have your own quirks. Mine is to play the movie "Sink the Bismarck!". It makes me feel highly motivated.

What about yours?

Wine.  A nice glass of wine, and my favorite rock station on the radio.

My model room is my office and fortunately I have my computer there too.  I have over a thousand tunes on my own playlist which I listen to when modeling.  No commercials.

It depends on the era of ship. WWII I have the series "Victory at sea", the movie "Midway", "U-571", or "In Harm's way" going, and if it's more modern, I like to put in something like "The Final Countdown". Love the sequences in that one.

I have a pretty big CD collection that is eclectic, everything from America to ZZ-Top from long hair Classical to the latest from Enigma.  Nothing really special to listen to, In the past 2 years I’ve been pretty heavy into the blues, I picked up a few Muddy Waters Cd’s that are really good, I wish had found him earlier.

Here's a good line-up of sound tracks. I just youtubed Harms way. Never watched this movie before, but it seems to have enormous potential, I might just add that to my list.

Nice one! You know your stuff. Haven't watched Battleship. Does it show much promise? I suppose it's worth the watch to see the Missouri in action. Hornblower is a great choice! Good maritime drama. That man knows how to think on his feet. I wonder if Ioan Gruffyud will come back to finish the series. There were so many naval battles during the Napolionic war. Could be a knock out!

Battleship is an excellent film, not too cheesy and a decent story, the Missouri isn't in it for long but a good film for building models to! I doubt they'll do anymore Hornblower which is a shame, but at least they did a lot of "Sharpe"!

And they finally gave us a decent "Judge Dredd' which is very much as it should be and not like the travesty starring Stalone!

On the bench-1/350 Zvezda Varyag, Trumpeter Slava class Varyag and Tamiya CVN65 Enterprise. 1/400 Academy Titanic and 1/96 DeAgostini Victory.

Fantastic! I'll take you up on that offer. A shame indeed. Perhaps we could get Hornblower back based on a petition campaign. Lol. I forgot about Sharpe. It's meant to be good Quite an action man. What about Master and Commander? Even better the Mutiny on the Bounty! That's another classic. With Stallone as Judge Dredd one have to say that you  can't polish a turd. I won't give the new remake a miss. I'll be waiting for the premier to come.

On the bench: Tamiya 1/700 Scharnhorst, Waterline series.

I've been into Dredd since issue 1 when I was a kid! The new film won't dissapoint!

If I'm in a sci-fi mood then battlestar galactica, space 1999, alien, babylon 5 and anything with spaceships!

On the bench-1/350 Zvezda Varyag, Trumpeter Slava class Varyag and Tamiya CVN65 Enterprise. 1/400 Academy Titanic and 1/96 DeAgostini Victory.

I have a good soundtrack mix on my Ipod. Midway, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Flight of the Intruder, The Final Countdown, and two Victory at Sea CDs on there, along with a few other sea themed tunes definitely cover my shipbuilding moodsetting

Good stuff. There's a lot of good soundtracks to accompany your boat building. Such as o"Apocalypse Now" and "Fullmetal Jacket". A good eclectic mix of tunes that will beg you to play them over an over again.

An ice cold can of Diet Fresca, iTunes library playing on random, and the patience to do a good job!  I find if I'm having a trying day, it can translate to the workbench, and I get sloppy.  Some days I start working on a project, and within 10-15 minutes I just know I need to stop and come back later!  :)

If there's a good ballgame and you're rubber necking every so often, wouldn't that just distract your model building? Like if I was watching footy on the telly, and it was good game, I wouldn't be able to work, I would rather chuck my self on the sofa with a bucket of micro pop. You would have to be both determined and focused to do both.

I hate it when nothing seems to go right, no matter what I do to troubleshoot. I find it hard to quit even when it's time to throw the towel. Nevertheless It's good to push things away sometimes and come back later with a refreshed mind. Good thinking Batman! Chug those Frescas.
