Needless to say...your work is outstanding on your Dreadnaught. You need to post some more pictures. I might need some pointers. ;)

I just purchased the Trumpeter Kit of the HMS Dreadnaught...do you know how it may stack up against the Zvezda Dreadnought?

I have done Trumpeter kits before, and they were very nice kits. I have not seen their Dreadnought kit yet, so don't know for sure how it compares to Zvezda.  However, the Zvezda kit is so nice Trumpeter will have to go some to top it.  The molding quality is fabulous.  Some spars are 0.030 in diameter!  This would be useless unless the sprue attachment points were tiny- they are!  Gun barrels are round!

The kit does cry out for photo etch, but there are several detail sets available that include PE, and there are generic sets of railings and ladders in 1:350, which are the most needed PE parts.

Don

Have enjoyed your air plane models, but now you pop up with this beauty!

Outstanding look.  You were right on, with the torpedo nets and the buoy,  takes her to a new level.

Nice work, Don! I'll be starting my own Dreadnought with the new year. Got the same detail set but I'm planning to keep the torp nets stowed. How did you find the Pontos decking?

Nice work!  The nets and booms look a bit 'fragile'.  Were they deployed only when the ship was at anchor, or could they be used when she was under way?

four-star

That rigging looks awesome Don (and the rest as well!).  Did you scratch the torpedo nets or did they come with the Pontos set?

They come with the Pontos set, as well as brass booms to replace the kit's styrene booms.

And to someone else's questions, the rigging of the nets was not nearly as bad as I had been expecting.  I used thin wire in the ends of the booms, since I couldn't get the Pontos PE hinges to fit right, and I thought gluing wire into the boom and the hull would make a stronger connection. Plus, it allowed a bit of bending to exactly line up the end of the boom with the hole in the net.  Also, I used strong monofilament line to rig the boom rigging, which I consider somewhat functional, since the nets are stainless steel, not brass, and a bit heavy. So far I have not had any sag.

Saving all pics for now till I figure which ones I am going to submit to FSM for an article.  When that gets sorted out, may post some of the ones I don't send them.

Beautiful work there, Don. "Deploying" the nets must have been an adventure in patience and precision, but it's a great effect.

Looks really great Don. Ditto on the netting. That rigging looks like it took you quite a while to do and looks great too. Toast

Excellent, Don, I like this one a lot. The mooring buoy is a very nice touch.

Finally got some pictures of my Zvezda Dreadnought, with the Pontos detailing set.  Hard to take pictures- I didn't have a backdrop large enough!

I displayed it with the torpedo nets deployed, but they did not photograph very well.
