Here's a link to "The Fighting Lady: The Lady and the Sea", from which most if not all of this footage was cobbled.

It's not rare in the sense that it's hard to find, as it was released by Twentieth Century Fox in 1945, but it's great stuff and well worth the look. See the whole hour long movie and you'll learn just about everything you need to know about USN uniforms in 1943- 1944.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Most of this footage has been around since WWII in various forms and places. Two of the more well known are in "The Fighting Lady" where it is seen in all its' full color glory, and then much of this was used  in B&W for the classic "Victory at Sea" series. I do like how it was "cleaned up" digitally to reduce the original graininess of the film. But give me  Richard Rogers music and the narration by Leonard Graves with the color film version please ;-)

During WWII, color photography was in the first stages of development. This video depicts the boredom and horror of war in real time. Turn up your sound volume.

Montani semper liberi.  Happy modeling to all and every one of you.
