Model availability
Posted by 7474 on Monday, November 19, 2012 7:49 PM

My dad owns a 38' Westerly Falcon, and recently I spent so much time helping him prep for shipping, stripping the hull of paint and the gel coat and fiberglass repair (previous owner did an improper repair resulting in rotting fiberglass). He was living on the boat for a few years and 2 weeks ago purchased a house with a dock on the back. Now that he isn't confined to a small space, I'd like to build him a model of his "baby". Does anyone know of a kit or where I can get some good drawings to build one myself?

I would say that you will probably have to scratchbuild this one. You can google images of this boat to help you or contact the boat's manufacturer. I don't think that there is a kit of this boat out there.

You have the same dilemna that many fall into. I build models of CHRIS-CRAFT and STEPHENS as well as WHEELER boats, and most are built from scaled photos. Now,if you could contact the company(do they still exist?).

MAYBE you could acquire a set if general plans or at least overhead and plan views to get you started. This may not help.but try a classic boat group or one of the publications that might be able to help you. TANKER-builder.

If your dad still has the original paperwork that came with this boat, there should be some fairly well detailed drawings of the the boat.  My old sailboat (circa 1973) has had multiple owners in the past but all the brochures, sail diagrams, maintenance records, receipts, etc., have been passed down from owner to owner. I could, if I actually had that talent, use them to scratchbuild a very detailed model of my boat. Ask your old man what he's got in the way of sales brochures that may have survived.
