Hi!

As far I know both Heller and Airfix 1:400 HMS Hood kits are the same kit. I found this review about the kit. Hope it helps you.

I've never built the hood, nor any other Heller 20th century subjects, but have built three of their sailing ships, and felt all three kits were excellent.

I agree with Don about half of the Heller sailing ships; they often created fictional ships.  One thing really perplexes me about their 20th century ships; Heller craftsmen did wonderful jobs on their kit hulls but their superstructure work was really second rate. I have seen the HMS Hood and was unimpressed from the deck up.  It was very bland and undetailed.

The Trumpeter 1/350 kit of the Hood is a much better model.

That is what I would call a terrible review. On the other hand, your hubbies point about maintaining a true scale is one I mostly tend to follow... in 1/350.

It sounds like a challenge, and if the hull is as close as it sounds, I say go for it.

Stick this book in the stocking, and you will have a very happy husband.
