Christmas present for my boys
Posted by docidle on Monday, December 24, 2012 12:12 AM

Hopefully this is not too off topic since the word airship has the word "ship" in it.

I built this as a night light for my boys.  They think it is pretty cool.

Happy holidays everyone,

Steve

Outstanding Steve. What did you use to make the "ship"? Any kid would like that light. Happy Holidays to you and yours also.

Beautiful.  I wouldn't mind having such a model hanging from my own bedroom ceiling.

Brings to mind (for some reason) an item I once saw in a mail order catalog.  It was a set of "reversed decoys."  It consisted of the (life-sized) bottom halves of several ducks - a mother and a string of ducklings.  They were complete with realistic, paddling feet, and the purchaser was supposed to mount them on his ceiling.  I've been kicking myself ever since for not buying them.  Would have looked great on the ceiling of our downstairs lavatory.  If anybody out there knows where I can buy such things, please post or pm.

Thanks Jim and John.  The boys were really excited last night with it, the trick is going to get them to go to sleep tonight!

Jim, the "ship" is the old Hawk Graf Zeppelin that has been reissued by Linberg.  The toughest part was blending the vertical joint, but it was well worth it.

John, if you find the ducks, please let me know my wife said she would love one!

If you know someone who makes duck decoys, he might be able to make you a set. Check with anyone who goes duck hunting or if there is a gun shop nearby, they could probably give you a lead or two. Hope that this helps.

Phil, I don't think these are exactly like the ones I saw earlier, but they'll do just fine!  Many thanks!  Docidle - the source is in the post immediately above this one.

Way cool idea,I'm curious did you open the model on top to install the light? The shadow directly above has me puzzled?
