I (possibly stupidly) taped my 'E' initially to spray my hull red. The tape was on for at least two weeks. I removed it, and aside for a little extra tugging, it seemed to come off alright. I actually found that the line it gave was very good. I now have my 'E' taped up to spray the gray above the water line, and the tape will also probably stay on for a good while. Thanks for the warning about it though.

As far as the tape goes  I think they meant   DONT  leave it on for more than 21 days. For modeling  I wouldnt leave it on for more than 3 or 4 days.  Its adheasive turns permanent after too long and it becomes impossable to remove ( Even with razor blades! )  Dont ask me how I know......

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

She went in for refueling in 1979 so she probably lost the radar then.

The continuing saga:

I have used Frog Tape for this the second model. It recommends leaving the tape on for a max of 21 days (interior use). I realize that this is most likely in reference to the domestic use of taping walls, but does anyone see the merit in this for models??

I agree. After the third or fourth F-4, the eyes do go a bit cross-eyed   8)

Sorry, actually I have found some research, but only in 1969, and at this time there were no A-4s flying.

I've done quite a bit of research, and I haven't found any info that there were A-7s flying off of her.

Will enjoy watching this one. Love the look of the Big E with the Beehive. I believe that Dragon bought her out in 700 Scale with the Beehive also.....Cheers mark

If you are using the A-4s and there are no A-7 Corsair IIs, then you will have to depict Enterprise as in the late 60s or very early 70s.

I have A-4s and F-4s. I also got F-8s, and probably  two UH-25s. There were no Corsairs included with the kit.

Yeah buddy your into a skill building model if I've ever seen one! After about the third f-4 your your eyes should be just fine. The sun downer logo on the A-4 is a bit touchy and the feul probe on the Corsairs is the width of a hair. Yuup a true skill builder "Sir" Then there is the patch on the helicopter pilots shoulder that says I love mom that really stands out.....

I have continued in my build. I actually made her my 'New Year's Resolution'. I plan to have her completed by April.

This is the first of all of the airplanes and trucks, etc. included in the kit. I think there are about forty in total. I have yet to decide if I will assemble and paint all of them and have them on the flight deck, or have some on the elevators and sort of as if they were going inside. I also could just assemble and paint some of them and make it as if the rest were inside.

She lost her beehive between 1979 and 1982. Don't know which exact year.

Didn't the Enterprise have the BeeHive Radar up to her 1980's refit?

CVAN-65? Then you are building Enterprise as she was prior to the mid 1970s when she was redesignated CVN-65?

I started my build about 6 months ago, and the cumulative progress I've made is:

started spraying the hull (red)

finished the propellers

sprayed the elevators

When completed, I am hoping it resembles CVAN-65, better known as the U.S.S. Enterprise "Big-E"
