With The Future Release Of U-505, Anyone Have Any WWII Color Photos?

The Skipjack is a rebox of the recent Moebius kit, which I have. It's not super-detail, but I consider it a good kit.

I am saying that Revell has a history of releasing ships by using existing molds and giving the ship another name. I thought that I was being clear.  I reviewed my earlier comments, and I nowhere said that I hope that Revell repeats their 1980's mistake.  I was unaware that Revell was releasing a Type IX kit. I'll believe it when I see it.  I sincerely hope that they do, but given their history, who knows?

So.. you're hoping.... that they don't release a Type IX-C.... using the VII Hull?

I don't understand; they're going to have both a VII and IX hull by year's end, why would they purposefully use the wrong hull when they have both types?

Hence, my concern.  I hope to see a1/72 Type IX-C; I hope that the past will not be repeated!

They've already released a Type VII in 1/72nd. They have an easy base for any variant they want.

This is the only color WWII photo that may give us an idea of the colors of U505. This sub is U805. That's all I have so far.

I'm a noob sub/model builder and I took a peek at the 1988 Revel 505 kit I've had for a few years the other day and I have learned just enuf lately to have notice right away its modeled as a VII!!

U-505 was a Type IX-C.  I also wouldn't use the museum colors as an authentic representation of the real thing. Museums are notorious for  fudging it. For example, here in Groton, the official U.S. Submarine Force museum outside the Submarine Base includes the sail of the USS George Washington (SSBN 598). It is correctly painted black; it is incorrectly painted with 16 white Polaris ballistic missiles on the sail.

I have plans to do a combo display of Guadalcanal and U-505 in 1/350th (some of the DEs too if I have that much attention span) .... U-505 is the main Type IX I want to do with the 72nd boat as well, but I haven't thought yet how I want to portray her.

The colour photographs of U 505, U 805 and U 858 all show medium blue-grey (probably Dunkelgrau 51) upper hulls and very dark blue conning towers (possibly Blauschwarz 58/2?)

Dunkelgrau 51 is available through White Ensign's Colourcoat line as item KM 02; page 6 of the PDF has a table with nearest matches for both colors, but these colors are available on the Snyder & Short paint chips:

Check with the Museum.  They may have kept her in her original colors.  It would make sense historically.  Worth a try anyway!

Hokey. Revell will be offering a new toll 1/72 U Boat U-505 in Late 2013. To everyone else, I'm just looking for the actual color of U-505 at the time of her capture. I did a quick Google check and didn't see any but I thought there were a few. Thanks to all.

Future release of 505? Whats up???

Check out the book "Twenty Million Tons Under The Sea" by Adm. Daniel V. Gallery.  He was the Task Force commander who captured the U-505.  The book has some photos, but they all appear to be B&W.  I am sure there must be many color pics around though, since the sub itself has been on display all these years in Chicago, I believe.

Have you tried googling U-505 images?
