Just remember, if you canter the yards slightly to say Port..then you have more room.  Yes..you can leave off the studding yards.  they were only mounted at sea and generally were not placed while the ship was in port for an extended stay.  Looks like your case will work fine.

Good luck

Thanks!

So, the main yards are 10"....if I'm NOT using sails, would I still be adding the studding yards, or could I just use the main yards without deviating too far from reality?

10" would make it a suitable fit for the case I'm looking at, but if it would look wonky/unrealistic to leave the studding yards off, then I'll just pass on the case....

Thanks again, RW!

Well..since you are going to build the kit..taking off the wrapping is just the beginning.

However, if you are paralized at this moment and need the data..the main yards are 10" and with the stunning sails yards extended add another 4",  If you canter the yard you can save some space as well...if you are going to build her with the sails set..  I'm currently building the 1959 version and it came with no sails.  The 1971 version I am building for my Ferreira diorama came with sails and will probably not all be used...since the Ferreira only had 4 square sails set on the formast..

Hope with helps....and good luck with your build

I looked for awhile to find a straight answer before creating this thread, but I got lost in a sea of posts!

Anybody know the width of the Cutty Sark, 1/96?  I'm looking at a case for when I finally get around to building it, and it would be good info to have....I guess the obvious solution would be to open the box and measure the longest yard....but that would mean *gasp* taking off the shrinkwrap!

The case I found is only 11 or so inches wide (too narrow for the big Constitution??), and I can't tell if the CS will fit in it width-wise...

Thanks!
