ARTESANIA - SWIFT 1805
Posted by deckhand on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 5:16 PM

Hi,

I'm new to model ship building and I was thinking of taking this on as my first project - what do people think... I am aiming too high??

I guess my main concern is in the plans/instructions - firstly accuracy & secondly written in such a way as to be comprehensive (... for a beginner).

While I have you, I would also be interested in hearing your general thoughts in regard to the practicality value of using a Dremel handheld tool for model ship building?

Thank you for your time & I look forward to hearing your thoughts and/or recommendations.

Regards

Art's Swift is a wooden ship model kit. I build both plastic and wooden models, including scratch build. If you want to build a wood model of a ship, and you have no prior experience, then I recommend you look at Model Shipways (ModelExpo) kits or Bluejacket kits. Another source is A.J. Fisher.  Artesania's kits require some experience.

Hi Ron,

Thank you for this guidance which I have very much taken on-board - no pun intended! :)

I will take some time to look through the Model Shipways, Bluejacket & A.J. Fisher kits to find a project that inspires me.... hopefully the one I find will be available in Australia, where I'm currently residing.

Thanks again
