Thanks! I'll start carving the foam water base next. I fit her out after she's launched!

She looks beautiful Lloyd.  I really love the preshading and the final color.

Thanks again. I have the foam base carved and the boat epoxied into position. Next stage is the water sculpting.

I defined the waterline and marked off the bow wave shape, which I'm feeling pretty good about. Taping the shape off makes it so much easier to create this effect.

The first later of clay has gone down, keeping it very thin to speed up drying, and this stuff will crack all over.

By the way, does anyone know what causes this frosting effect with dullcoat? I suspect it's the lacquer and white spirit thinner I used in the wash reacting to each other but I could be wrong.

I had that happen on a resent build, nowhere as bad as it hit you but my first thought was I didn't let my filters and washes gas out enough before I hit it with a dull coat. What is the old saying if it still smells like paint then it aint dry yet. Anyway I now let things go 2 days (or sometimes more) before I hit them with a dull coat

Ok, thanks. I figured I should have let it dry longer. It's quite fixable, just a hassle.

The water base modeling is done and shortly I'll paint the ocean and wave details. The bow wave turned out ok, I got the arc working the way I wanted, it just will need more foam added to look convincing. For that I'll probably use acrylic medium.
