Please excuse me.

I did not mean to offend anyone here. I was just trying, rather ineptly, to keep the conversation polite and positive.

Sincere apologies.

Apologies are not needed, Arnie, no offense was taken and I, in turn, apologize to you if you took my comment to be spoken in a harsh way.

The subject of flags and flag etiquette has come up before in regards to MM's models. They are fine models and his builders do a good job on them but flags and ensigns are one thing that they occasionally get incorrectly. One facet of my job during my active duty stint in the USN was to know what flags were to be flown on different occasions and circumstances. I have advised MM (and others) when I spot a discrepancy and try to present the error in a tactful manner. MM is very polite but a little hard headed when it comes to taking this advice.  I still offer it to him but feel that I am just wasting my time. If it looks good and is what the artist that paints the box art shows, then that is what it is going to be. It is a shame, for the models he presents are usually pretty darn good but flawed by arbitrarily placed flags. I mean, if you are going to allow this, why not paint the hull a nice pleasing color like teal, gray is so boring.

Model Maniac

Arnie, you have done nothing wrong. I understand what you were trying to do. But as it has been for a long time, netiquette is a rare thing here!

Please, don't try and blame others for a lack of netiquette. This has all been brought on by yourself. People often give advise, whether it been on accuracy or on improving others modelling. This is usually done in a polite, constructive and friendly way and is usually received as such.

But your approach and attitude over the last couple of years has lead to some hostility towards you and your posts.

Totally no need to apologise. It's just that MM has got a few peoples backs up over the years.

one can be critical w/ out being disparaging. Its called constructive criticism.

arnie, there is a bit of history with MM which goes back at least a couple of years. It has lead to some people either not commenting on his posts or doing so in a way which is, shall we say, more abrupt than would normally be the case.

So don't judge subfixer to harshly.

Arnie60 - thanks for your kind comments and compliments! I really appreciate them! I consider subfixer as a friend here, he just wants to help. And though his comments were harsh, he some time said nice words like "Good job.." for the Eskimo destroyer. He didn't come to just lambaste me like few others.

GMorrison - thanks for your kind comments on the build. I've become curious about the ensign and did some searching. Here I found the images of the real thing, and the ensign is on the jack staff!:

Arnie, no such limitations exist here. The mods only require that it not become personal, political or religious. Anything else is fair.

I've never met this sub guy, although I would probably like to, but he has a point. A national ensign on the jack staff of a ship is incorrect. Masthead, stern post, but not jack staff.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I strive for accuracy in my builds, and often rely upon the knowledge and expertise of some of the exceptional modelers in this forum towards that end. I always appreciate someone pointing out to me how I could make my build more accurate.  But in the end, it is really only about me being happy with the results. Not what anyone else thinks it should be.

And as the saying goes.

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

On that note:

Great craftsmanship MM. Nicely done.

This forum usually invites critique and allows people who know a little something about a subject to speak out in praise or criticism for the general benefit of the members. So if I see something glaringly wrong I am supposed to remain silent? Only say nice things? Bah!

Oh, man, am I screwed!

Arnie the guy who built it is Toom. It is a clean build overall.

Again with the ensign flying at the jack staff. Ruins the whole model.

Sub -

Save yourself some grief and don't waste your energy mentioning inaccuracies with MM's builds.  He doesn't care for anything other than "great model" posts, and his builders do no sort of research at all.  If the instructions say to do it wrong, MM will argue that it is right because they say so.  We all know a model company's instructions are NEVER wrong!

That's what the instruction sheets suggest. I see nothing's wrong with that.
