Trumpeter 1/350 Dreadnought 1907
Posted by Marcus McBean on Saturday, November 16, 2013 3:36 PM

This kit comes P.E. parts and rails already, but I see that there are other P.E. upgrades for this Trumpeter kit, Eduard and White Ensign.  I was wondering if would be worth it to also use one of those kits?   I will be purchasing the barrels and props, but I hate to spend 30 to 75 plus dollars on a upgrade kit that may no add any enhancements.

What to do?

Usually the after market kits have more PE than the kit PE comes with. Also it's usually much finer and better detailed, but more fragile than the kit PE. I prefer to use after market any time I can.

I built the Zvezda kit, and bought the Pontos detailing kit.  Don't know whether that detailing kit would work with the Trumpeter kit or not.  The PE might, but the wood deck fits very closly to hatches and fittings, so it may not work.  Only problem with the Pontos kit was instructions were poor.  Not good enough identification of parts, drawings of locations, and there were a couple of mistakes.

I find most after market PE instructions to be poor at best. A lot of guess work is needed.

Thank you for the feedback.  I been comparing the PE in the kit with the ones I found on line and I think I will be sticking with the kit PE.

During my searches I discover the propellers are for the Zvezda kit.  I figure they should work for the Trumpeter kit.

Yeah, I think most parts would work.  Only the laser-cut wood decks would be suspect.  These have to fit pretty well and may be pretty specific to one kit.

Artwox has a wood deck kit for the Trumpeter Dreadnought.  I did purchase the Dreadnought 3D book from Amazon and will use those drawings to re-compare the P.E. kits.  My son has been looking a pictures on line and trying to compare the P.E. kits.  So I may have been premature to say that I will go with the P.E. kit that came with the model.
