Instructions and Models
Posted by tankerbuilder on Saturday, December 21, 2013 8:41 AM

Hi , Ya'll :

I just came from the Model Railroader site concerning train stuff . In doing so I ran into the page where you can download instructions . What I ran across was REVELL's ORIANA liner . Which I have been looking for .The model that's out right is NOT even close to the REVELL 1/485 scale model . I would like this model and yes, the duplicate CANBERRA plus any ship kit of the S.S. BRASIL/BRAZIL that REVELL also made .Can anyone help me here ?    Thanks in advance      Tanker-Builder

There is a 1:495 Revell Oriana at Hobbylink.  Are you sure about the 1/485 scale?

Brasil/Argentina kits are strictly an eBay thing these days.  They come up on a fairly regular basis and seem to sell in the $40-80 range lately.  Some time back they sold in the $80-125 range.   Be patient and one will come up.

That old Revell Oriana is an old-fashioned "box scale" kit.  The scale probably depends on just how you measure the kit.

I don't have any record of Revell issuing a Canberra (other than the missile cruiser of that name).  Airfix did make a cruise ship Canberra in 1/600, but I haven't seen it in many years.

I can't quite follow Tankerbuilder's sentence:  "The model that's out right is NOT even close to the REVELL 1/485 scale model."  Could we have a little clarification, please?

What I remember best about the Brasil/Argentina kit is those nifty little scraps of blueish foil that were supposed to represent the water in the swimming pools.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I always equated those gum wrapper pools with my model of the Oriana. Maybe memory fails me.

I also think alot about the concept of "box scale".

In a way, I wonder if it wasn't "mold scale"?

After all, boxes are cheap but the machine that holds a mold isn't.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
